Standards Project is about developing a set of standards for the market of Mobile Traveler Guides (MTG market).

Introduction of these standards will ensure that all multimedia stories will be compatible with all Mobile Traveler Guides. Thus the market of any given content or application will be dramatically increased and provide all stakeholders with an opportunity to multiply their revenues.

In order to avoid misunderstandings, it is important to point out that we are not suggesting the development of new audio or video formats. Backbone standards such as audio codecs and the HTTP protocol are already in place. We believe that it would be enough to develop specifications for the following:

  • XML files describing multimedia stories (coordinates, link to objects, triggering zones etc.)
  • Set of protocols (based on HTTP) for requesting and delivering content

The development of these standards is not expensive and could be done in a relatively short time. Being technically simple, it still requires the use of a lot of knowledge from the field, scientific research and discussions to incorporate the wishes of all the stakeholders. We need to implement state-of-the-art tracking of tourist behavior into these specifications, make them specific enough to provide interoperability and general enough not to limit further innovations or each product’s specific competitive advantages.

Development is to be made by the stakeholders themselves, not by IZITEQ. Our company plays the role of the process initiator and facilitator, nothing more. Our vision on how the process of standards development should be organized is given in chapters entitled "What standardization" is and "Technical Committee".
